Doctor Strange

I found this pose rather humorous when I saw it; Doctor Strange (played by Benedict Cumberbatch) trying to look supernatural.  I immediately made the connection between this and Sherlock.  "I'm in shock, see, I've got a blanket!"

This is a piece of fan art of Captain America which I produced during the duration of inktober 2016.

Inktober Favourites.

Inktober was a success this year, so I thought I'd share with you a few of my favourites.  This year I chose my own theme; Lions, which lasted about fifteen days.  I encourage anyone who want s to improve their art to do this, because I myself noticed a big improvement from day one to day fifteen in the way I draw lions.  Even after the month of October was over, I kept on drawing daily in inks.  Highly recommended.

Legendary Lance

A set of seven Lance icons from Voltron Legendary Defenders.  His expressions were a delight to recreate, barring photoshop's slowness and threats to crash.  But I did get them done a second time, and here they are.

Voltron Lance

I had about seven sketches of this guy drawn in my sketchbook, and I liked the expression on this on the best.  My intent was to clean up all of those sketches, and I was very nearly finished the job, having saved often, when photoshop crashed and took the whole file into oblivion.  This is the only surviving image from the whole project.

Heraldic Gryphon

Found this guy in an old sketch folder, and I thought it would be fun to give him a cleanup.

Team Aoi Contest Piece

There's always something going on at https://www.paigeeworld.com/, and sometimes I join in with a little piece of my own.  This time it's a rematch between the two paigeeworld mascots; Aoi and Nyan.  Team Aoi was lagging behind, so I thought I'd help out a bit.

Shark Merdude

Lemon sharks are pretty cool.  I think swimming with a lemon shark would be really cool.  I watched a series on youtube where this guy went scuba diving with all sorts of sharks.

Rough Castle Concept

Putting hours of research and reference drawing to good use.  Castles sit on hills and overlook towns. It's so much easier to plan out a story behind a setting if I have it at least partly drawn out.

Tidecaller Nami

Here is the final Tidecaller Nami Piece.

League Of Legends Fan Art

This is the first part of my Tidecaller Nami fan art piece.  It took a few tries to get the pose.

Here I start cleaning it up.

Colour dodging.

More cleanup and colour dodge.  Quite a few times while working on this piece I was sure it would not turn out.

Game In the Works

I've had a part in making assets for a game called Counter Squall, a top-down tower-defence shooter game.  You have to defend your houses from attaching squalls of skeleton men, without letting their integrity drop to zero.  These skeletons can attack you and your houses with either guns of knives, or even electricity.  Visit this link to see a work-in-progress video: Counter Squall WorkInProgress

Green Café

Here is a rough layout of a planned animation about cake.   I roughed out the perspective in FlashCC, and cleaned that up in Photoshop.  The most important thing missing is the cake.  Naturally.

Character Appeal Analysis

I recently watched Gravity Falls for a project, and acquainted myself with the style.  I tried my hand at a self portrait just for kicks, and saw how boring the design was.  There was no exaggeration, nothing really that gave hints to personality.  It was just plain 'ol me in a sweater and skirt.  The character appeal was low.  The next drawing I took to the very basic at denim/cotton.  It would barely suit a background character, but it gave me something to work from.  I exaggerated skirt length, which did improve character appeal, but it was still plain.  Marble Pines had her iconic sweaters and headband, Dipper had his hat and vest and journal.  Maybe I was missing an identifier prop like that.  So I ditched proportion and style, and came up with 1) Story, 2) Pose/Expression, 3) Character (no longer a self portrait).   The character's garments were designed to aid the story (something along the lines of a hobby farmer is constantly losing chickens/livestock to mysterious creatures/monsters in the woods).   Sneakers for running.  Half-length skirt for ease of movement.  Rolled-up sleeves on over-shirt identifying someone who is ready to work.  Mostly loose clothing for comfort.  Ponytail  to keep hair out of face.  Then it was just a matter of translating this information into the Gravity Falls style.  I think it was fairly successful.
